Listen Down: J. Cole’s latest track “Snow on Tha Bluff”

By Bubba Krishnamurti

J. Cole has just surprised his fans with a new single titled “Snow on Tha Bluff.” It is his first solo release for the year of 2020.

The track features Cole’s quintessential wordplay and overtly direct style over lush arrangements of delicately played guitars, fretless bass, vibraphones, and atmospherics. The soundscapes lack any percussion which plays well with Cole’s conversation rapping on this track.

It is not lost on the artists that releasing music in today’s environment can not afford to ignore the zeitgeist. This sentiment is clear in his lyrics:

“I scrolled through her timeline in these wild times and I started to read/She mad at these crackers, she mad at these capitalists, mad at these murder police/ She mad at my n*ggas, she mad at our ignorance, she wear her heart on her sleeve/She mad at the celebrities, low key I be thinkin she talking bout me”

Since his last release in 2018, the artist has been intimating the drop of a new record titled The Fall Off. No release date is currently available.
