Warp Records artist Flying Lotus has released a video for the track ‘Remind U’, from his latest record ‘Flamagra (Instrumentals).’ To create the video, Fly-lo recruited Canadian collage artist and filmmaker Winston Hacking. The long-time collaborator directed and animated the beautiful piece of maximalist film. Hacking and Flying Lotus last collaborated in 2017 on the video for Post Requisite alongside director Eddie Alcazar.

The hypnotic video is a glimmering landscape of collage and ornate texture perfectly befitting the mid-tempo track. The Toronto-based artist is not your average Instagram collage hack. Thematic interplay and thoughtful coloration accompany his highly complex collage work. Hacking have amassed millions of views on YouTube and garnered a large following after gaining a reputation repurposing content from vintage commercials and print. advertisements. He likens this approach to a DJ perusing through old through record crates. In an interview with CBC he described the utility in hacking preexisting mediums: “Usually there’s something in people’s poses in these advertisements – they’re a bit stilted, and I’m trying to exploit that and exaggerate things,” he explained. “Why shoot new things when there’s so much content out there that you can re-use? They’ll shoot a commercial for a million dollars and then it will go to the wayside. Well, there’s more than one use for that thing.”
