Listen Down: Animistic Beliefs release new EP

Live favorites Animistic Beliefs release Thief of Sanity EP.

By Bubba Krishnamurti

Hailing from Rotterdam, Animistic Beliefs are known for taking their modular-synth styled techno into any dark venue or cramped basement that will take them. The live performances have been hailed with a tinge of mythology. They have performed at a slew of notable Dutch and European electronic venues including De School, Griessmuehle, and Rewire. They were enlisted for a “secret rave” in Zurich which was curated by Gucci.

Their debut EP Sinuous Gullies was issued on Solar One Music’s sub-label ‘Between Places’ reportedly sold out instantly. They quickly replicated this with a soon released repress. They later released a split cassette with Legowelt as ‘Audiosport 8.’ In 2019 they released the debut, full-length album ‘Mindset:Reset’ which underscored their knack for subverting the technology they work with.

They have now released another EP titled ‘Thief of Sanity.’ The Dutch duo took to socials and explained the release of the  four-track project: “Really happy to announce ‘Thief of Sanity’, our debut on brokntoys. The 4 track EP is an ode to the past, drawing inspiration from political techno group Underground Resistance as well as ancestral pan-tribalist music – without compromising our Rotterdream sound. We hope to be able to show you all a peak into our melancholy filled world, where we share our worries, hopes and fears in the form of a tongue-tied protest.”
