Pennsylvania’s Thomas Fec, known by his nom de plume TOBACCO, has announced his next record Hot, Wet & Sassy. This is his first full length record since 2016’s Sweatbox Dynasty. Arriving October 30th via Ghostly International, zealous Tobacco fans have been eagerly awaiting new material from the Black Moth Super Rainbow frontman. One could imagine no better record teaser than issuing a single featuring Nine Inch Nail’s Trent Reznor. The track melds Tobacco’s quintessential gained out soundscapes and Reznor’s tell-tale vocal stylings.
“I feel like it’s the most I’ve been able to refine what I’m doing,” TOBACCO said about the new record via press release. “For the past decade I’ve had this motherfxcker on my shoulder that makes me pick away at structure and melody. Purposely covering up moments because I can. That really came to a peak on Sweatbox. So I wanted the opposite this time. Write the songs without ripping them in half. I went from ‘what would the Butthole Surfers do?’ to ‘what would Cyndi Lauper do?’”
TOBACCO went on to elaborate on ‘babysitter’ and working with Reznor, “This was new for me, but I wanted to write a song that was everything I am and have been, and then like one notch further. Trent was the notch further.”
Late last month, TOBACCO released Hot, Wet & Sassy’s “Centaur Skin.”
